Riot Games has a hunger for blood this season, with two champions in a row having a dark gothic look and a violent appetite. After the recent release of Naafiri, we get to meet Briar, the next LoL champion which might be available in Update 13.18-13.19 in the PBE.
In a recent Reddit AMA with the League devs, Riot Meddler took the chance to answer a fan’s question on when Briar will be available. He answered that she’ll release on the PBE between the now and the next dev update:
“You’ll see her on PBE at least between now and the next dev update. Dev updates are generally 4-6 weeks apart, though timing will vary depending on what else is going on and how much we’ve got ready to talk about.”
This basically tells us that Briar will launch in the LoL PBE between updates 13.17 and 13.19, with the latest being the most possible. The fact that Naafiri was just released, shows us that a new champion to not see the light of day in the next month or so. For what it’s worth, the League dev team is on fire, despite the backlash they got about the state of the game in the previous months. This shows even more by the fact that the team is willing to bring back the new season cinematics this year.
As for Briar, there’s not much we know about her for now. According to Riot Games’ 2023 Champion Roadmap, Briar is yet another jungler, originating from Noxus. She has a gothic aesthetic and is young but not as young as Annie for instance. Hints from the dev team lead to Briar being some type of Vampire like creature. However, we don’t know if she’ll be able to transform to a bat or something like that.
We’ll need to wait and see if Briar actually releases in the LoL PBE in one of the next patches up to 13.19. Until then, make sure to give lots of love to Naafiri as she’s not always angry. She just needs lots of pets.
