Riot Games plans to introduce a brand new game mode in League of Legends in the next months, Ultimate Spellbook. But, what is Ultimate Spellbook and are the developers introducing it so early on the PBE servers?
In short, Ultimate Spellbook in League of Legends is a brand new game mode that allows you to use another hero’s ultimate ability in addition to your own champion’s. This means that you can play Mundo with Lissandra’s ultimate, Jhin with Miss Fortune’s, and so on. As HBBONG, Product Lead on the Modes team explained, you will be able to queue for blind picks as you would do in a normal game. Where this mode differs is that you don’t have a second summoner spell. Instead, you get one Ultimate Ability from another champion.
The ability selection happens within the game. Upon entering the Summoner’s Rift, you’ll get 3 random ultimates and choose the one that fits your champion the most. This is mostly relevant due to the fact that damage for all those abilities scales based on whether you use an AD or AP champion, much like your own ultimate ability. The ultimate pool includes:
- Ahri
- Amumu
- Ashe
- Azir
- Bard
- Cho’Gath`
- Ezreal
- Fiddlesticks
- Gragas
- Gwen
- Janna
- Jarvan IV
- Jhin
- Karthus
- Kayle
- Kayn
- Kha’Zix
- Lee Sin
- Lissandra
- Lucian
- Lux
- Malzahar
- Maokai
- Miss Fortune
- Mordekaiser
- Morgana
- Nocturne
- Nunu
- Olaf
- Rell
- Rengar
- Shen
- Skarner
- Soraka
- Talon
- Tryndamere
- Xerath
- Yone
- Zoe
Unlike your ulti, this spell will be available before level 6, after 135 seconds since the game’s start. The pacing of Ultimate Spellbook is as fast as One for All’s, according to HBBONG. And, of course, you can expect to be able to see which ultimate’s your opponents have chosen. HBBONG also shared the following details:
Ultimate Spellbook has accelerated pacing similar to that of One for All. You start at level 3 and with more starting gold, so level up and spend your money! Passive XP and gold are increased, you share some minion gold with teammates in lane, and objectives work differently.
Rather than four Elemental Drakes, Ultimate Spellbook has Mordekaiser’s old drake.
A drake will spawn every 3 and a half minutes.
Stacks grant a buff that makes auto attacks on towers apply a DOT that deals percent health magic damage to towers.
The Soul grants the ability to reanimate on death with rapidly decaying Health. This ability has a 5-minute cooldown.
You can already try our Ultimate Spellbook on PBE right now, so why don’t you go and spread some havoc?
