Today marks a huge day for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics in Southeast Asia (SEA) as Riot Games takes over the publishing of its games from Garena. During the past decade and counting, Garena was responsible for both games in the Philippines, Thailand, and more countries, meaning that the game experience was tailed to the publisher’s needs. You might already have seen some of the insane rewards Garena was giving players for joining the game. These days are gone. Riot Games is taking over to offer the same experience to Southeast Asia as all other countries do.
Until now, other Riot titles like VALORANT, Legends of Runeterra, and Wild Rift were under the wings of Riot Games in these regions. Now League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics are joining the ranks. The change will be effective on January 2023, when Riot’s contract with Garena ends. This means that Riot is in the process of creating new offices. As the official post details:
“Our new structure in Asia Pacific will see us expand our efforts in countries we already publish in like Japan and India. In addition, we are also in the process of establishing new local offices in key countries including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Players in these countries can look forward to having a dedicated Riot office focused purely on creating hyper-local experiences by tailoring our games to audiences in each country and the region as a whole.”
Countries affected by the League of Legends & Teamfight Tactics SEA Account Migration:
- Philippines
- Malaysia
- Singapore
- Taiwan
- Hong Kong
- Macau
- Thailand
- Vietnam
What do players need to know about the League of Legends & Teamfight Tactics SEA Account Migration?
If you play League of Legends in any of the countries listed above and through Garena, you’ll need to go through a migration process, which starts on November 18th, 2022. Starting at this date, you’ll need to go to the Account Migration Microsite and complete your transfer. Players in these regions that play on official servers from another region, will be able to transfer their accounts to the SEA server. As Riot explains, accounts transferred that way, won’t be able to be transferred to another server.
Riot Games also explains that account content like summoner names, skins, emotes, etc will be transferred to your new account. However, your Garena League account will be deleted. Note that further than December 31st, you won’t be able to transfer your account anymore so make sure you don’t miss the date.
