A new expansion is coming to Legends of Runeterra this month, bringing a dark turn to the popular card game, with new champions including Morgana. This expansion, named Fate’s Voyage Beyond, will focus on 3 new champions: Morgana, Mordekaiser and Mihira, and one new keyword: Deathless.
Morgana’s Background
Morgana is, undeniably, one of the most popular League of Legends champions, and given her lore-rich background, it only makes sense for her to be arriving at Legends of Runeterra. It’s often that Riot Games’ fans claim that the Runeterra lore is mostly expanding through LoR these days, so seeing such impactful champions enter the game is meaningful in more than one way.
Morgana is the love child of a mortal and a celestial being, giving her a divine background that she shares with her sister Kayle. Although Kayle fully embraces the divine power within her, Morgana’s wings are bound to earth, a remembrance of her past self.
Apart from Morgana, Legends of Runeterra is also getting a Mihira champion card. Mihira is the Aspect of Justice and the mother of Morgana and Kayle. She is a celestial being, bound to her duties as the disciple of justice and order through the planes.
Morgana’s mechanics in Legends of Runeterra
Morgana is a 3/4 unit with a 5-mana cost that works around using curses and shackles on enemies. By default, she has lifesteal and upgrades after you have targeted units 8+ times.
In her upgraded form, Morgana curses on attack and deals additional damage to already cursed enemies.
Now, let’s take a look at her spells:
Dark Binding
Dark Binding stuns and curses an enemy it targets, which will be useful to use on enemies right before you attack with an upgraded Morgana. It costs 3-mana so it won’t be resource demanding plus Stun is a powerful debuff in any deck.
In the “upgraded” version named Morgana’s Dark Binding, Dark Binding also creates a Morgana in your Deck.
Black Shield
Coming straight from her League of Legends E ability, the Black Shield gives a super cheap Spellshield to one of your allies although it also casts a shackle on it. This card will be useful as an anti-control spell although in later stages of the game where Morgana is upgraded, it might hurt you as much as the opponent.
The centerpiece of Morgana’s power, Shackles is the curse she casts whenever the curse keyword activates. Although it can fill your hand if you’re not careful enough, Shackles is super powerful as the opponent-cursed ally is practically useless while this is in hand.
Fate’s Voyage Beyond is coming to Legends of Runeterra on December 6th, bringing apart from Morgana, Mordekaiser into the champion roster.
