The tenth set of Teamfight Tactics is coming in a couple of weeks and with it comes a big change to how ranking works. With the start of TFT Set 10, Emerald will be adding an extra layer of challenge to the current ranking system.
The news comes from the latest TFT Dev Video that aired today during the Championship finals. The video itself showed us the upcoming Set 10 and some of its units, the continuation of portals, and more. However, if you are a ranked player then the addition of Emerald in the current ranked system will excite you.
Emerald was first introduced in Wild Rift as an addition to the existing League of Legends ranking system between Platinum and Diamond. Earlier this year, Riot Games added it to League of Legends, spreading the platinum player base further into more ranks.
Now, it’s time for Teamfight Tactics to have its ranking system reinvented, given that the current rank distribution pits 31% of the player base in gold, 16% in platinum, and 6.2 in diamond.
In addition to the Emerald rank in TFT Set 10, the ranked seasons will now span longer since there will be no mid-sets and sets will run for 4 months with 3 sets per year. This way, you will have more time to focus on your ranking and not strive to hit Diamond with more and more games each week.
