GODS, the Worlds 2023 anthem follows Deft into his Esports story and how he rose from a student in Faker’s High School to a World champion in 2022. The video clip takes us through the hardship of being a passionate player, not going down through failure, and having an unbreakable heart, as the song implies. In this article, we’ll go through the story behind the GODS Worlds 2023 Anthem and why it’s one of the best cinematics we’ve seen in Lolesports.
Early Career
The cinematic starts with Deft starting his esports story in Mapo High School. Faker was one of the students in this school but they did not share classes, contrary to the video’s storyline. Deft took it upon himself to reach Faker’s level, ultimately scratching elbows with him a few years later.
It’s beautiful to see how the editors made Deft fight the Blue Buff, making it look like a true battle while Faker is taking on Baron Nashor with the former showing awe in the sight. Moving on, we see Deft watching Faker in his competition in Worlds while he himself is not competing.
Worlds 2014
At this stage, we see Deft’s first appearance in Worlds in the Samsung Blue vs Samsung White matchup. The clip shows Pawn with his Jayce pick against Deft’s Lucian in the semifinals where Deft’s team finished without reaching the finals.
Worlds 2015
Moving on to Worlds 2015, we see Deft in his then EDG team alongside Meiko going against Fnatic. It’s particularly interesting seeing Rekkles with his then signature pick Kennen AD, which terrorized the Rift and ended the contention of EDG for the title.
Worlds 2016 – 2019
This is the part where the champion that has been brewing inside Deft was made. Through these 4 years, the Worlds 2022 champion faced way too many esports hardships and unfortunate results.
Worlds 2020
In this heartfelt clip, we see Deft with his Senna pick against Canyon and Showmaker. In a twist of events, Keria, his then-teammate is saving him as Braum from Showmaker’s Syndra ultimate, setting the stage for the grand finale in 2022. Despite the unfortunate outcome, we find Deft getting saved from his downfall by his new team DRX with Pyosik, Beryl, Kingen and Zeka.
Worlds 2022
This is the time for DRX to shine. After a slow start in the LCK, the team managed to reach the Swiss stage through the play-ins and ultimately found themselves in the grand finals against T1. Now it’s time for Deft to go against Faker in the big stage but also against Keria, his former teammate. After a quick run through the previous matches, we find Deft facing Faker and Keria with their Viktor and Karma picks. Against all odds, DRX, as one managed to win as an underdog against T1 and finally bring glory to our protagonist.
What did you think of the GODS Worlds 2023 anthem and did it do justice to Deft and his story? Does it stand tall against titans like Legends Never Die, Rise, and Phoenix?
